Tier 2 General - extended for 3rd time

Hi all.

The college of mine recently extended his visa for 3rd time after 6 years in UK.

He worked all this time for the same company with relevant salary. After 6 years he applied for another extension with new certificate of sponsorship and got his visa with Biometric Residence Card for another 3 years.

My question is how is it going to work with "no more then 6 years in total"?

Because now we have more people whose vise is due to expire after 6 years and they all going to go the same rout. If that`s wrong there may be complications for them aftermath.

he may have had the intitial tier 2 visa before 2012, in which case he falls under old rules and is allowed to extend beyond 6 years.
check the exact date mentioned above (2012) as to when did these rules came in. i cant remember correctly now

He did enter UK in 2010 (before April 2011).

May I ask for how long then he may extend his stay?

If he got his initial Tier 2 visa in 2010, then there is no restrictions on him to extend his visa. He can extend his visa as many times he wants.
