EU national - tax question

Post by Leona123 » Tue Jan 10, 2017 11:46 pm

Hello everyone,

I am a EU national and moved to the UK 2 months ago. Have lived abroad (outside EU) for 4 years - my husband (non EU) is still abroad working there and sending me money every month until I find a job. So I am self sufficient and do not intend to claim any benefits.

My question is: do I need to pay tax for the money husband is sending me monthly (roughly 2500GBP) ?

My second question is: we have saved a bit abroad for a house in the UK, if my husband sends me these savings will I need to pay taxes for it?

My husband lived and worked in the uk around 7 years ago. He does not need to pay taxes on his income abroad obviously.
But we hope he will get a transfer to the U.K. soon (possibility is there). So maybe that changes the situation?

Can anyone tell me who I need to contact for more information?
