PAYE Tax Payment 2016-2017

Post by gauravh1221 » Fri Jan 27, 2017 12:27 pm

I am planning to apply for British Citizenship in next month. I have worked for 3 employers in financial year 2016-2017 and one of my employers did not deduct tax from my salary in first 5 months of beginning the employment. They started deducting tax since last month. I spoke to PAYE-HMRC about it, they said they would send me final tax bill at the end of the financial year i.e. April 2017. Can this cause problem if I apply for citizenship in February 2017? Please advise.

Should not cause any issues - things like this do happen regularly - and they are sorted out via PAYE coding or agreement. As long as you stick to what is agreed no issue. Just surprised an employer can get away without deducting tax ....

Hello alterhase58,

Many thanks indeed for your kind reply!

Actually the tax code the employer had was set to give me my personal allowance and then start deducting tax after reaching the personal allowance limit but same thing was happening with my first employer too. When I called PAYE-HMRC in December 2016, they asked me how much was my income from the first employer and that was well above the personal allowance limit in the current tax year and hence they sent new tax code to second employer and then second employer started deducting the tax. I guess this happened because I work full time in one job and part-time for another employer and the tax code was not correct.
