EEA PR Card lost

Post by eumumto2 » Sun Jan 29, 2017 11:45 am

Hello,
I am not sure if I post at the right place.
My friend is not registered here and asked for an advice.
Her situation:
She is EU (A8) citizen living in the UK (Scotland) for more than 10 years. She says she had 'some blue card', but doesn't know if it was just 'Residence' or 'Permanent Residence'. Anyway it has been lost as she didn't see it already for about 3 years. She doesn't have any copy unfortunately.
Now she is thinking about to apply for the citizenship.
Could you advise what she can do in this situation? How can she get information if she had the confirmation of permanent residence status? Where to write questions?
Thanks.

Probably a good idea would be to request an SAR (see https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... mmigration) - there are some recent threads about SAR on this board.
Full SAR may produce the answer.
If it's the blue trifold (I had one issued in 1979) then initially it's the residence card, and later maybe it was stamped to confirm PR).
Of course, sometimes we all file important papers very securely and eventually they turn up.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.
Please do not send me private messages asking for advice.

Thank you for your reply!
I am a bit confused what to tick in the form - Printouts from the database or Home office files?
Even if she will tick all the boxes... do they provide information if she was issued a card? or do they just provide information when she was exercising Treaty rights?
Because she needs to have that PR Card before applying for the citizenship.
And what is the difference between Fast track and general application?
If you have an idea could you let us know?

How long had friend been in UK when she got the card?

Why not apply for replacement?
If its replaced she will know she had a valid card.
If denied she did not.

That is what we are trying to understand what to do.
Thank you for your suggestion!

P.S. she was a little bit more than 5 years in the UK when she got the card.

When she got the card can indicate what it is - when was that?

She got card in 2012 or 2013, she doesn't remember exactly.

And when did whoever it was enter UK? can she remember that?

If it was 2007 then the card could be a DCPR after all why would anyone wait 5 years to get a RC.

Just discovered about card replacement. It is requirement to report the loss to the police and get ref.number from them. But how can she report the loss if she doesn't know if it was the permanent residence card or not?
My thoughts are to go via SAR or try to write simple letter and send to Home Office (what address??), may be this way she could get the answer...

... then the card could be a DCPR (after all why would anyone wait 5 years to get a RC).

EU nationals have to prove residence in UK without the aid of a passport - hopefully that and all other vital evidence has not been mislaid too.

Thank you, noajthan, for your time!
I am not sure how many documents left after her few movings in recent years. Probably that's why the PR Card is lost.
