Citizenship through child

Post by brotodo » Thu Feb 02, 2017 7:26 pm

Hi,
EU parents living in the UK for 10 years have EU child. At 10 years he will get British citizenship. Will parents be able to apply for citizenship after their child gets it with less restrictions (mum never had a job here) and will the application be cheaper?
Thanks!

No benefits to becoming a British Citizen by having a child who is a British Citizen. You will have to meet the requirements to naturalize and pay the fee 1236 pounds per application (one per each adult) plus biometric fees and if you use the Nationality checking service or apply for the passport at the same time you'll have to pay those fees as well. You'll also need proof you are free of time restrictions so you'll have to apply for confirmation of your Permanent residence which is 65 pounds.

You don't need to be working to get British Citizenship.

Goodluck :D

How is your son becoming a British Citizen? Was he born in the UK?

As MrSlyFox has pointed out, Form T registration only applies if the child was born in the UK and has been outside the UK for less than 90 days a year.

Mother may not have worked, but did the father exercise treaty rights for any five continuous years? Was father registered with WRS (if from A8 country)? Are they married to each other? What are the nationalities of the father and mother?

Thank you for both of you.
