Questions regarding visas

Post by Twizzie » Tue Jan 15, 2008 9:03 pm

I've been reading through different posts and not finding what I'm looking for, so if any links to topics like mine are sent my way, I'm extremely grateful.

I'm a US citizen, my boyfriend is a EU National living in the UK. Currently I reside here in the US and have flown over twice to visit him; in September 2007 for 2 weeks, and just recently at Christmas for 3 weeks. We know we want to marry and we will be residing in the UK. I work for myself so a work permit is out of the question.

I want to go to the British Consulate here in Los Angeles to apply for a Fiancee Visa.
What should I bring with me to apply that would help us? How much is it and about how long before they give an answer?

Once I'm in the UK on a Finacee Visa here is what I do know...I cannot work for the 6 months on a Fiancee Visa, and we must marry within the 6 months. And I will have to return to the US, once married, to apply for a Spousal Visa.
My question is, about how long does it take to receive the Spousal Visa from the time of a walk-in application?

From what I've heard the cheapest and quickest way is for him to come here, us marry, me apply for a Spousal Visa and that's that.

You don't need to return to the US if you are here on a fiancee visa, you simply fill in the form for a spouse visa in-country.

A spouse visa allows you to work, so you wouldn't need to apply for a work permit anyway.
