Tier 2 Extension Visa duration

Hi all,

Apologies if this question was previously asked. I couldn't find any existing post covering this topic so have started a new thread.

I want to know what would be the duration on my visa (if successful) following extension in tier-2.

My first tier 2 visa was valid from 15-01-2014 till 20-01-2017.
For my tier 2 extension, my employer issued a new CoS for 3 years with starting date: 21-01-2017 and End date: 20-01-2020.

As my application is now with HO and I am waiting for a decision, I am thinking for how long I can be awarded this visa for. Lets say if I get until 20-01-2020 as per my CoS, it goes 4 to 5 days beyond that 6 years of allowed visa stay under this category.

If I am granted visa for another 3 years plus 14 days and lets suppose I am granted visa (touchwood) on 24-02-2017 till 23-02-2020. It is still good 10 days beyond that allowed 6 years period.

Could anyone explain or if one had an experience of such that what happens in this situations?

I'll appreciate your response and feedback as always.
