Schengen visa

Post by PaulM » Fri Jan 18, 2008 7:57 pm

Hi,

I was wondering if someone might be able to help with a question I have. I would very much like to travel sometime next week, with my family to France for a short visit. We are travelling on South African passports. I reside here on UK Ancestry visa and my sister is over just on a short visit. From the info I have read it seems that you are only able to gain appointment for a visa is you are residing here. In other words I could go get visa and my sister would not be able to do so. Is this true? Is it possible to go to French Embassy and just try and get visa or are appointments mandatory? Any info would be great.

Regards
Paul

Regretfully yes. She should have applied for her Schengen visa before leaving SA.

Appointments? Yes mandatory. But suspect that in view of the above you have now called off the trip?

Maybe a trip to Dublin or elsewhere in the Republic of Ireland? No visas required for SA citizens.

Paul
Well the good news firstly, Schengen visa now entitles you to travel to nine more country's than before including Poland and the Czech Republic.

Bad news is John is 100% right you will have to make a appointment at the French consulate or any other Schegen State before you can enter any of the Schengen countrys.

As for your sister she can only get a Schegen visa from her country of residence ie SA.

Final since you now live in the UK and will probably want to travel a bit , try and get a multi entery Schengen visa from the French.

Best way to do this is to make two one day ferry crossing bookings and make your application.
Good luck!

Thanks guys for your responces. I'll follow it up, will try get multi-entry for myself. Pity about my sister. It was just a spur of the moment thought anyway. We'll just have to go somewhere in UK or Ireland as John said.
