Nationality Checking Service - do I need it?

Post by ffion » Sat Mar 11, 2017 9:48 pm

I've tried to book an appointment with a local NCS but they are fully booked for the next 2 months.
I've been wondering if it's worth waiting for the appointment in May, risking any fee increases that may happen during this time? I don't really need to keep the documents as I have both my passport and ID, but I was tempted by the 'application checking' service given the huge fee at stake.

Are you aware that you can apply through any NCS? It doesn't have to be the one nearest to where you live.

I know that but I'm in Wales and there are only 5 (!) NCSs for the whole country so they are all far away (and probably equally booked).

If you don't need to travel while you're waiting for the application to be processed you could apply by post, but bear in mind that it could take 6 months or more before your passport is returned.

If you apply through the NCS and use the joint passport & BC application service (JCAP) you won't have to attend an interview after the citizenship ceremony before your British passport can be issued.

Thank you, I'll be able to travel on my EEA ID so that's not a problem but I'm worrying that I'll miss on some vital advice on my application or collection of supporting documents...
I'll check the available appointments in the second nearest, just in case.
