Postgraduate student registration

Post by moshea619 » Tue Mar 21, 2017 3:40 pm

Hi,

I'm a non-EEA citizen who will attending an Irish university for a postgraduate course commencing in September. I don't need a visa to enter Ireland, but I need to register at the immigration office within 90 days of my arrival. Students are given a stamp 2 visa, which permits them to take up casual employment of 40 hours per week in the summer and 20 hours per week during term. I am trying to find out how early before the start of my course I can arrive in Ireland and register at the immigration office. For instance, would I be able to arrive in June, register with immigration, and begin to seek employment?

I've spoken to the Irish embassy in my country, but they have just referred me to the GNIB, who I haven't been successful in getting in contact with.

Has anyone had experience with this and could help me?

Thanks!
