Visitor visa for Minor

Hello All,

My mother in-law is going to apply for visitor visa( she is widow and visited previously in 2011). This time she also wants to sponsor my nephew to visit UK during his summer vacations. My MIL is planning to stay for 2.5 months but nephew will be staying here only for 1 month. My visa agent says that my MIL will have to leave the country along with my nephew as she is the sponsor and he is minor. Is this correct???

What docs are required from my mother in-law for sponsoring my nephew to visit UK.?
