We are due to apply for an extension to my wife’s spouse visa next month. We have the required supporting documents, but one anomaly is that her payslips and National Insurance record are under her unofficial English name, and not her birth name, as she prefers to use her English name at work. All other docs are under her birth name.
When starting her current job in 2016, she asked her company to use her English name to make life easier working with colleagues and she contacted the government helpline to get her English name added as an “additional name” on her National Insurance. Since then, all payslips, employment confirmations, and NI contact reference the English name.
We do have an original NI number confirmation letter from prior to her starting work, which matches her NI number against her birth name. Plus, while her payslips use her English name, the actual salary payments are going into our joint bank account, which uses her birth name.
I think we have enough evidence to show the connection between her birth name and English name she uses day-to-day at work, but I’m worried the HO will stall her visa extension application over this point. Do we need to make a deed poll application to formalise the English name she uses at work, or do we need to change the work and NI name back to the birth name to make it all link together more cleanly?
We could also get a letter from her line manager confirming she is known by both names as additional evidence if that would help the case.
Thanks for any advice.
