Tier 4 Time Limit for Master's

Post by cmptrvsn » Tue Mar 28, 2017 7:31 pm

Hello

I completed an Bachelor's (MEng) degree in Engineering with an industrial experience (5 years), and I would like to study a Master's degree at a different university. Am I not eligible under the rules of the Tier 4 visa?

Thank you in advance

If you mean in terms of the cap, no you are eligible. See immigration rule 245ZX(ha)(i)

(ha) If the course is at degree level or above, the grant of leave to remain the applicant is seeking must not lead to the applicant having been granted more than 5 years in the UK as a Tier 4 (General) Migrant ... to study courses at degree level or above unless:
(i) the applicant has successfully completed a course at degree level in the UK of a minimum duration of 4 academic years, and will follow a course of study at Masters degree level sponsored by a ... a body in receipt of public funding as a higher education institution ... and the grant of leave to remain must not lead to the applicant having spent more than 6 years in the UK as a Tier 4 (General) Migrant, or as a Student, studying courses at degree level or above;
I do not give immigration advice. I refer you to Immigration Rules, guidance, other online content and to your sponsor.

Hello sah10406

Thank you very much for your response. I've read that as well but wasn't sure since I currently hold an offer for a 2-year Master's degree. My apologies, I should've stated that it's a two year programme. Do you think I'd still be eligible? (I've read something about 6 years + 11 months for certain cases)

My undergraduate was an MEng degree and was from 2011 to 2016 (with an industrial year experience). I did not extend it because of a resit or anything like that. Also the calculation of total time law was after 2015, which way is my time going to be calculated? Total leave to remain? Or just the times I've attended university?

Thank you!

No. I was assuming it was a 1-year Masters. I advise you discuss it with your Tier 4 sponsor but they are very highly unlikely to be able to sponsor you.
