Traveling while visa is being processed!! URGENT!

So I am currently in the U.K. on a Tier 4 student visa and a few months ago I lost my BRP. I applied for a replacement and did my biometrics but i still haven't heard anything. I have to travel out of the country in a few days and they have my passport. I'm not sure what I should do. I was thinking about getting a temporary passport from the US embassy but will I be able to get back into the country? Please help!
