Visitor Visa to UK and Schengen Visa

Post by Day1n2 » Thu Jan 24, 2008 2:01 pm

Hi,
My husband and i live in the UK.I am a PR and my husband is a british national.
My mother is an Indian National and currently lives in India.
I am going to apply for a family visitor visa with a validity for atleast 1 years plus(type c).
We would like her to stay with us for atleast 1 years time. But the type C visa will allow her to stay for maximum of 6 months only.
Is it possible that she leaves UK after a stay of 6 mnths (visit another country in europe) and re-enter and stay for another 6 mnths?

Because we will be visiting another european only after 6 mnths we are not able to apply for a schengen visa for her from india,as applications cannot be made more than 3 mnths in advance. Could anyone advice me if it is possible to apply for schengen visa for her from UK?If so which embassy would you suggest?

Thanks and regards

Has your mother visited the UK before?

If not, then getting a 1 yr visit visa the first time is next to impossible and even if she manages to get it, extending her stay in the UK via the EU route may or may not succeed...

Unfortunately, visitors may also have problems applying for Schengen visas.

I am not sure what you mean? She will not be staying longer than 6 mnths at a stretch...Cant she leave UK (visit another european country)and re-enter UK and stay for another 6 mnths? Or is there a time limit that she can stay for a maximum of only 6 mnths in a year???

That's what I'm saying. HO doesn't like people 'attempting to settle' on visit visas and even spending half a year 'visiting' seems over-generous. That will most likely change when the visit visa period is reduced to three months.

People get away with successive six months 'visits' for years tho, others get caught first time, you have ask is it worth the risk? The price is a black mark in the passport and formal application for visits and mucho scrutiny.
