Renewed passport early

Post by AntonioS » Sun Apr 02, 2017 1:55 am

Hi all,

Regarding the question asking whether this is my first passport, I have selected no and entered my previous passport details, however I am unsure what to put down as the expiry? The passport was valid for approx. another year, however I ordered and received a new 10 year visa. Should I put down the original passport expiry (i.e. 05/18), or do I put down the start date of my new passport as the expiry (03/17)?

Cheers!

Which nationality passport are you applying for?

If it asks you the expiry date of your previous passport, then put down the expiry date of your previous passport. Even if the previous passport hasn't expired yet, then it doesn't change the answer, does it?

Hi Vinny, thanks for the reply.

It's a renewal of my Australian passport. What you've said is what I had originally thought to do, however by law you aren't allowed to have two current passports for the same country, so when I applied for the renewal they cut up my old one. So in terms of being able to use my previous passport, it has already expired and wouldn't be recognised anywhere, despite having an expiry date a full year from now.

So although the previous passport became "expired" when I applied for my renewal, should I still put down the original passport expiry date?

I think that the date of expiry of a passport is fixed when the passport was issued. When you renew a passport early, the expiry date of your passport hasn't change. However, they may cancel your passport when processing a passport renewal. But that's a separate matter.

Moreover, Concurrent passports are also possible.
