New Requirement for English Language for Naturalisation

Post by its_capricorn » Mon Apr 10, 2017 11:53 pm

Hi ,
My wife got Indefinite leave to remain in March 2015.
Few weeks ago I read a thread on immigrationboard regarding English Language requirements for those who got settlement on or after 28th Oct 2013.
Has this exemption been removed ?
I looked for it on UKBA but could not find it.
Can anyone help please as I have got an appointment tomorrow with NCS.

Hi Capricon
Assuming your wife is not from one of the English speaking countries, she will need either one of following:
1. English language test certificate from accepted colleges OR
2. NARIC certificate for degree taught in English

she may use the same documents that she provided at ILR stage.
Hope this helps
Cheers
R

https://www.gov.uk/english-language/app ... ifications

"Applying for citizenship

You can use a B1 level qualification that’s run out if you’re applying for citizenship and it was accepted when you settled in the UK.

It doesn’t matter if the B1 level test you took isn’t on the current list of recognised tests. You don’t need to take another test

UKVI. (UKBA was disbanded in March 2013).

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.

Hi ,
Thanks for your reply.
The test she passed for settlement was ESOL Entry level 3.
Is that valid ?
She got her indefinite leave in Mar 2015.
