Council tax reduction

Post by sweet fatima » Sat Apr 15, 2017 2:47 pm

When my husband applied flr .....we were claiming child tax credit and child benefit. Claiming the benefits did not effect his application. In 2019 he will be applying for ilr....i wanted to know if claiming council tax reduction or any help towards paying council tax will effect his application. Council tax bills are on both of our names
Thanks

Depends on the conditions of your leave. Does your BRP say you have no access to public funds ?

Note:
If you're in a couple and one of you is not subject to immigration control, they may be able to claim benefits. However, in most cases that person will need to make a claim as a single person. You should seek advice beforehand as your immigration status could be put at risk.

Yes my husbands biometrics resident permit card says no public funds. But we have been getting child tax credits when we applied for extention. Shall we stop claiming child tax credits then...as it will risk his ilr

As long as you are claiming tax credits in JOINT names, there isn't a problem.

Child benefit should be claimed in your name only.
