Spouse visa

Post by dpetrenko » Sat May 20, 2017 12:48 pm

Hi,

My name is Dimitri and I need your advice on my spouse visa application.

I'm a British citizen and I need to get my wife, who is currently in Asia, to join me in the UK. We got married in Asia end last year. I'm applying a spouse visa for her and I'm directed to a site visa4uk.fco.gov.uk. While reading the information at gov.uk, it is clear that I need to apply for a "family visa" (www.gov.uk/join-family-in-uk). However, at visa4uk.fco.gov.uk, I cannot find a right category and the only one that is close enough is a settlement visa (Reason for visit: Settlement, Visa type: Settlement, Visa sub-type: Wife). I'm going ahead to apply with this category? Is this the correct route?

While filling in the application, my wife is asked to provide details of her previous passports. She does not have her old passports, all she has is her current passport. What should we do this case?

Any inputs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Dim

Hi Dimitri,

yes, that is the correct site/route/Visa to apply for.

On your next question, I should say, I'm not an expert or lawyer and this is simply my opinion from my own knowledge and experience of going through the process.

I don't believe it's such a big deal if she does not have her old passports as long as she has not visited the UK previously. If she has then she needs to remember the dates and state these on the application along with a reason why the passport is not submitted with application -you can do this in additional information section. When it comes to the question asking list ofcountries visited in past 10 years, state those stamped on the current passport.

Good luck
Simon
