IS a visa required to travel to Europe?

Post by SarahSaha » Sun May 21, 2017 2:49 pm

Hello,
My husband is Indian and living with me in the UK on a settlement/spouse visa. I am British. We are planning a holiday to Europe, I've checked online for Croatia and Hungary visa requirements and both say, people holding an EEA family member residence card/permit are exempt from having a visa. Would my husband fall in this category, and even if he does could we still face issues, I've been advised by a friend we may.

Thank you in advance and apologies if I've posted in the wrong area.

No as your husband isn't holding an EEA family permit, he has a spouse visa issued under the UK Immigration Rules. He will have to apply for a Schengen visa.

Thank you for your reply. I have done some further reading, and yes it would seem we need a Schengen visa which should be issued free of charge from an embassy, and you shouldn't have to provide travel tickets etc. I was hoping not to have to travel to London. Does anyone know if there is anywhere in the north of England you can apply?

Neither Croatia or Hungary are within the Schengen zone. However, it appears that Croatia at least permits someone with an existing Schengen visa to enter or transit (i.e a visa issued for a Schengen state).
