applying for British passport

I was recently naturalised and was asked to send over my South African passport for the secretary of state but then I was informed that they have sent it to the South African Embassy and that I'd need to contact them in order to get it back.

Do I need the passport I entered the UK with in order to get my British Passport? I have 2 other passports that I applied for after the first one with my ILR in it.
