Expired Passport

Post by Mobi232 » Sat Jun 03, 2017 8:42 pm

Hi all. I will be applying for a visa for my non-eu spouse to join me here in the UK. I have a few questions and was wonderimg if someone could please help me.

The most pressing issue at the moment is that my passport expired in March. I was born in the UK and will be sending in my birth certificate along with the expired passport. Is this acceptable or do I need to have a valid passport to sponsor my wifes visa?

I also moved addresses in April. I am applying using the new address however all my payslips/bank statements have my old address. I have the letter from my new landlord confirming I reside there (and that she has no problem with my spouse moving in with me). Does this matter?

I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks.

Hi Mobi,

It's a little unclear if you read the specified evidence...

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... lement.pdf

Page 3 - Sponsor.

Certainly, birth certificate is not on the list so probably not acceptable.

I assume the word "current" in reference to passport of sponsor on VAF4A form - question 7.8 - means valid i.e. NOT expired.

People change addresses and this should not present a problem. When you submit the new tenancy agreement the date on it will be clear. Just explain it in the additional information section. You could submit your old tenancy agreement or council tax bill or utility bill to sure up the address on the bank statement and payslips.

On the letter from the landlady, I believe the language has to explicitly state "no objection"

Hope this helps.

Good luck
Simon
I'm not an expert and only answer from my personal experience and understanding of the rules. Spouse Settlement Visa Granted for my wife July 2017. You should not take my advice as absolute.

Hi Simon. Thanks for your response. Thats really weird about the birth certificate as the online form has it as something you need to send in. That's why I was thinking my passport being expired wouldn't really matter since I'm not going to be the one travelling. Its just a form of ID. Will see if i can get an appointment for the passport office to get it renewed quickly. Thanks.
