UKM Aplication for citizenship

Post by paul1976 » Wed Jun 07, 2017 5:37 am

Hi guys I'm Appling for citizenship via UKM Form, currently in Australian. I need to send my birth cert, my passport , my Mothers Birth cert , I'm just wondering 3 things.

1. can I send a certified copy of my Passport? as I know the process for citizenship can take 3 months + and have a work trip to new Zealand coming up in 2 months where I will need my passport and don't really want to wait till the trip is over to send everything off.

2. if not do they normally keep the originals till the whole process is done or do they send it back before the approval process?

3. if they do accept certified copy of my passport can I do my biometrics here (Australia) then go to England on my normal Australian passport and finish the process off, ceremony ect in lets say Sheffield England? I did see on the form it says if you want to do the ceremony somewhere else please state where, but unsure if that can be in a different country, but all depends on question 1 anyway.

thanks for your time

There is no requirement under the British Nationality Act that section 4C applicants even possess a passport (or submit one) and since there is no residence requirement for UKM, there is no legal or statutory reason why they should need to see one. Other than for proof of ID- but then, not everyone has a passport. Based upon this- you may wish to submit a certified copy and see what happens. If they want the original they will ask- but you would be entitled to ask why.

In exceptional circumstances, you may be able to apply to Passports Australia for a concurrent passport. (in other words- a second Australian passport).

oh really good to know thank you, very confusing as in the UKM guild chapter 4: what to send, it says: your passport https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... r_2015.pdf

but as I said I need to use it and want to get the process going, so as you said if they want the original they will notify me I guess. can't hurt to try

thanks again

That would be great if they would accept a certified copy. When I did it my passport took three months before returning.
Let us know what happens if you try it.

will do, still not sure about sending the certified or not tbh as it might just add time to the whole process, I do have an expired passport and maybe send a certified of my current one, I really don't know what to do, as it does say : your passport either way sending something tomorrow. so i'll make my mind up tonight lol

The Home Office guidelines are just that- guidelines. They cannot override the provisions of the British Nationality Act or impose requirements not specified within the Act.

thanks heaps for that JAJ , I sent certified copies of everything my passport , birth cert, and mothers b/certificate. hopefully that will do the trick but still haven't heard anything yet.

I know it got delivered by courier and signed but haven't heard any sort of confirmation from UKVI yet saying they have it. it's been 7 days (5 working days) when should I start to panic that my information is out there?
