Hello all! I am a US citizen who met a French citizen during graduate school in the UK. We have been doing a long-distance relationship for nearly 3 years and ready to be done with it. I'm planning to quit my current job, move to France to get married, and then apply for a long stay work visa and find a job in my field. I am a full-time manager, but I also have lots of freelance work for a US company I can do in France. I also have au pair experience and have had a lot of interest in an au pair profile I made advertising that I'm looking to work in France during the second long stay work application period (I am older than the average au pair, but that seems to not be a problem). We just want to live in the same city (there's a question of where I should live once I arrive, see below) and once I get a job down the road, we'll use both incomes to get an apartment together.
Questions:
- Could I state on the long stay visa application that I'm going to live with and work for a family as an au pair? I have savings, but it would be nice not to spend them.
- Or, would it be easier to say I'm going to stay with my fiance's family? At the moment, my fiance is doing another school program and lives with his mother. Neither of them make much money right now (she's older), so I wonder if I'll be denied because of their finances.
- I saw someone on here say to book a hotel. Would they believe I could stay in a hotel for 3 months?
- Also, will there be a problem if I do freelance writing while in France on a long stay visa?
Thank you very much. We are really excited and would appreciate the advice.
