I dont know what i am, how can i find out what i am

Post by zakarhyn » Tue Jun 20, 2017 11:04 am

My mother married a UK citizen and I moved here in 2000 at the age of 13. I have lived here for 17 years but am still under an American passport. my mother and step dad have moved to America and I am left here. I have an NI number and have been on benefits. I want to find out what my status is but without harming my status and life, is there any way I can do this.

Do you still have all your passports?

That is an interesting question, and there are a few possibilities. It does depend on the status of your mother, too. Do you know whether she every applied for ILR? And if so, did she register you as a British citizen? That would have been the best course of action, but I guess you would know about it.

Do you know your own status? Did you arrive here on a visa, are you on ILR? If you have your previous passports, they would contain clues.
