Naturalisation - Travelling + Expiring Passport

Post by NeedAdvicePlease » Tue Jun 20, 2017 12:23 pm

Hello everyone

My wife has applied for naturalisation on 4 April 2017. We have two simple questions and we would appreciate if someone could clarify these for us:

1) While her naturalisation application is being reviewed, we are planning to travel abroad for 4 weeks. Will travelling have any implications on her naturalisation application? Is it okay to travel?

2) Her current passport (the one which she used in her naturalisation application) will be expiring soon. We are planning to apply for a new passport. Will obtaining a new passport have any implication on her naturalisation application? Is okay to obtain a new passport?

Thank you very much!

I assume you used an NCS service (otherwise, you wouldn't have the documents back by now), which means that the passport and biometric residence permit are still in your possession. I also assume she has submitted her biometrics by now, in which case you should be fine. If the application is approved while you're away, your council may invite her to a citizenship ceremony that takes place while you're still on holiday. If this happens, she'll need to ring the council up when you're back to reschedule.

I'm not sure. I'm inclined to say that if it was good enough for the people at the NCS, then it's probably fine, but I'd defer to one of the actual gurus here.

Thank you very much to clarify the two questions>

1) Your assumption is correct. My wife has done the NCS service and she has done her biometrics too. So I understand that there will be no issue

2) Could someone share their experience. Is it okay to obtain a new passport? I don't see any issue but I would like to be sure.
