Sending Additional Documentation for Spouse Visa

Post by unowho » Fri Jun 23, 2017 1:09 pm

Hi all,

My wife is American and is just about to submit her spouse visa application from the US. I currently live in the UK.

She needs an additional bit of documentation (original bank statements) that I won't be able to get to her in the States within the 2 week window following her biometrics appointment. I know some people have had luck with submitting printed online statements, but I'm anxious and want to provide ones I got from the bank.

Is it possible for me to send these directly to the UK Visa Office in Sheffield so that it will be considered as part of her application? Alternatively, if I went there in-person to deliver these, would they be able to help?

Very curious to hear if anyone has had a similar experience! Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

why do you think you cannot get them to the US? Are they not in your possession right now?

I think there are a few options for you

1) If you have them, you could get a pick up from Fedex today - International Priority - and they would be delivered to West Coast US by Monday next week. You could get a pick up on Monday and they would arrive Thursday. You can do the round trip well within 10 working days.

2) Your wife can send everything to you and you can add the statements and send everything to Sheffield. This is what I did. I brought almost all of the documents back from Russia with me after the Biometrics but forgot my wifes signed application - mass panic - so she used Fedex to get it to me from Russia, took 1 day. They collected it from her in the morning and delivered it to me in the UK before 12 pm next day.

3) You could send them separately to Sheffield but you are then relying on the person who signs for your documents, going and finding your wifes application in amongst literally 100's possibly 1000's of others and correctly putting them with them. Do you trust that to happen?

4) You can't deliver in person that I am aware of. Before I submitted my wifes supporting docs, I called them and asked about this and they told me no.

5) Send application as is. If everything else is fine and they are going to grant the Visa but take exception to your bank statements, the ECO will call you and ask you to send them in, you will get a specific address to send them to. Likewise, the ECO has the flexibility to just accept the printed ones if she/he believes they are accurate.

Hope that helps.
I'm not an expert and only answer from my personal experience and understanding of the rules. Spouse Settlement Visa Granted for my wife July 2017. You should not take my advice as absolute.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the exhaustive reply! I really appreciate it.

Options 1-2 sadly aren't an option. The 2-week window closes on this coming Monday, so we won't be able to get the documents to her in time (even if they went via Intl Priority) and if she shipped them to me I wouldn't be able to get it back out in time for the deadline.

Re: options 3-5, I think I will try to do a bit of all of them. I'll send over the bank statements in the post (on the off-chance that they do successfully put it with the other application). I'll contact the offices directly to see if delivering things in-person is an option. And finally, I'll wait for them to contact us if they take issue with the existing statements, and then will send them directly.

I feel a lot better now about our prospects. You've really been a big help!
