Returning home for the summer.

Post by blamethecows » Fri Jun 23, 2017 5:31 pm

This is a unique situation so can't find any relating topics but advice would be amazing,

I am a UK citizen and I currently live and teach in China and this year on vacation in a another city in China I met a boy who then I started dating. He is a chinese national. We have only met a few times but I plan to move to his city within China (I have a work visa so the process is simple). Anyway he took a trip to visit his friend in the UK, his friend is studying there and he went to visit. His first visa was rejected because insufficient information but he was granted a 6 month visa the second time. He went to the UK and planned on staying 3 months. He booked some flights and showed them in Hong Kong airport before leaving but since cancelled them and re booked flights a little later (still within his visa limit). He has return flights to HK but they are different to the flights he originally showed in HK airport. Other tthan Instagram and wechat posts they is not really anything to say he is my boyfriend, we don't live together or even in the same city.

I am a UK citizen and I was told my holidays this month. I decided that I would visit home for 3 weeks and also visit my boyfriend. I have booked my return flights to China and I have a stable job here. I plan to come back to China and my boyfriend plans to come back and live in the same city as me.

I have anxiety in general but I am kind of worried about this situation. But I can't really explain my worries, like will they question me returning to the UK? we have no plans to get married or even to live together in England, we will just travel and I will stay with my mother the rest of the time. I will return for 3 weeks and we will visit a few cities. Both of us plan to go back to China but on separate dates. My worry is that this seems suspicious.

Any advice would be helpful!

I can't see that you will have a problem, but your boyfriend may have blotted his copy book for future visits by staying longer in the UK than he requested on his application, despite returning before the expiry date.

I figured if they questioned me at the border as a UK citizen it wouldnt necessarily matter because I am not lying and have solid plans to return to China, as my classes begin the day after I return to Beijing.

My last question is the likelihood someone from immigration will visit him despite him not overstaying his visa? He will still have 3 months validity when he leaves and he has these flights booked as well as additional funds from his parents.

Thank you for your advice.

No one from Immigration will visit him and you're really over-thinking this. Why would you be 'questioned at the border' when you are a British citizen with no requirement to explain why you are entering your own country.

My point is that staying longer than the time he specified in his original visa application may affect visitor visas applications in the future.
