Surrender of Indian passport for family

Post by jain208 » Mon Jun 26, 2017 10:52 am

Hi All,

I recently got my British passport and now going to surrender my and family's (wife and 10-year old son) Indian passport.
I have a couple of questions regarding this:-

1. I am assuming all the family doesn't need to physically go for the appointment, and only I can go on their behalf. Is that correct? Also, if so, do I need to get authorization letter from my wife to allow me to submit form on her and our son's behalf?

2. Regarding the self-addressed envelope for delivery of surrender certificate, do I have to buy separate envelopes for 3 of us, or would 1 envelop suffice?

Thanks,
Abhishek.

You can surrender on behalf of your family, just get a letter from your wife - as stated elsewhere in other threads.

You have the option to buy the envelope at the counter - they charge you a nominal fee. If buying your own, make sure you buy thick cardboard envelope which does not bend easily. Each applicant needs a separate application form and each assigned a unique id, so it will need to be one enveloper per person.

Thanks elvampiro for the help.

I have bought the thick envelope, and got it made self-addressed. I hope it would work out cheaper than what they would have charged at VFS. :-)
