Hi all,
I'm posting on this thread due to the similarity with my situation.
For peace of mind, I'd love it if someone could confirm my thoughts so far.
Situation: I'm a British citizen. My unmarried partner of 6 years is Chinese. We're currently living in Australia and looking to migrate to the UK. We're looking to get on to the 'Family member of a settled person' visa for 33 months before applying for an extension. After 5 years, we'd be eligible to apply for settlement.
Plan of action:
1. On the (still terribly labelled) Visa4UK website, we'll select 'settlement', 'settlement', 'unmarried partner'.
2. We'll provide supporting docs for proof of finances, relationship, knowledge of English, etc.
3. She doesn't need the tuberculosis test because she's been resident in Australia for more than 6 months.
4. I will complete the sponsorship form as her family member.
Questions:
1. Any problems with my current plan of action?
2. Do we need to pay the UK Healthcare Surcharge? The government website says that you don't have to pay the surcharge if you are a family member of a european national with european union treaty rights. As a Brit pre-Brexit, I assume I fit the bill, but it still doesn't sound right and I note that sirno did pay the fee in similar circumstances.
I'd be very grateful to hear from anyone with experience here, particularly sirno.
