Financial self-sufficiency for EEA students

Post by stellarann » Tue Jun 27, 2017 10:59 am

Hi all,

I am trying to obtain some written evidence that claiming (certain) benefits can have a negative impact on a PR /Citizenship application for EEA citizens.

I am an EU citizen holding student status and am temporarily left with no income as I am separating from my husband, who has supported me financially until now.

I need to produce written evidence that if I was to claim benefits I may not be considered financially self-sufficient and my upcoming PR application may be rejected.

Has there been any guidance issued about this? Has there been any FOI request made about this or a similar topic? Does claiming any benefit jeopardise the status of financial self-sufficiency? I currently receive child benefit but would like to claim Child Tax Credits and/or Income Support if there is no negative impact.

TIA
