Biometrics Done (Australia) can i do Ceremony in the UK

Post by paul1976 » Wed Jun 28, 2017 12:54 pm

hi guys n gals

just did my Biometrics today in Australia, can I now finish off the process with the Citizenship ceremony in the UK rather than waiting for it to happen here?

I saw a change of Address form but they want things you can't get if you're not a citizen rental certificates, bills ect with the new address I'll be staying at in the UK (Brother house)

any advice?

Are you intending to move to the United Kingdom before your British citizenship is granted? If an Immigration Officer thinks you're planning to do that, you can be refused entry. In addition, what would be the plan if your citizenship application is delayed or refused for some reason.

If you do want to move in the near future, you should consider an application for a Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode. In theory- you can change the venue for a citizenship ceremony but it always carries the risk of a delay in the application (non-standard procedure).

it's a UKM mother and Father plus grand parents were all born in the UK , so thought they really couldn't refuse entry.

if my parent were married I would automatically be a citizen and would only need to apply for a passport.

and if it did by chance get refused I would just turn my intended stay into a visit and go home as I don't need Visa rights to visit being a part of the commonwealth. the main reason for the change between doing it in Australia vs England there was a family death in England I did intend to wait here in Australia until sworn in but the death advanced my trip plans

on the original form it asks where you would like the ceremony to be held. blank is local (Australia) I assume. in hindsight putting a England council would have been better for my situation. thought it would be just a simple change of a ceremony location but doesn't seem to be that easy

If you show up as an Australian citizen with no other evidence of entitlement to live in the United Kingdom (ancestry visa or Right of Abode stamp in your passport) then they are not necessarily going to assume anything and if they think you are an intending immigrant you may be sent straight back to Australia.

Ill be on a return ticket , so there is no reason for them to stop me at the airport. I can stay for upto 6 mths.

in that time there is a good chance my approval would happen.

rather than flying back to Australia just to do the ceremony I would like to change the ceremony place to a England location.
