EU passport, spouse visa advise.

Post by John_baap » Thu Jun 29, 2017 10:30 pm

Hello all.

I just needed some advise on my situation.
So currently I am a Portuguese Citizen, living here since 1992. I've only recently applied and obtained permanent right of residence in the UK.

I am looking at getting married next year to my fiancé who lives and is studying in India but she won't graduate till April 2019.
With Brexit going ahead where will that leave me in terms of obtaining a spous visa for her?

What would you guys advise at what I should do? What would the best thing for me to do this given the situation I'm in.

Many thanks.

Why do you have ROR if you're a Portuguese?

Where are you planning to get married? BC if you do it in the UK, you've to give a notice, and it might take several months.

In terms of non-EEA direct family members (such as your so to be husband) coming to the UK after the cut-off date, he'll receive the same conditions applied to you: an equivalent to Residence Card, valid for 5 years. And then he'll be able to apply for settled status, as you'll also have to.

But all the Brexit settlements are still uncertain...
