ILR in expired passport – job searching after redundany

Post by lcrc » Mon Jul 03, 2017 5:20 pm

I’ve just been made redundant after 4 years and as I’ve begun the usual job search a recruitment consultant mentioned that I cannot be considered for work with just showing both Passports (the expired one with the ILR stamp and my current passport) which was always fine before.

I travel many times a year and have been in the UK for over 10 years. I have never been told by border control that keeping my old passport as a holder for my Visa stamp would soon not be acceptable so I was totally unaware until now job searching.

I’m very worried and quite frankly upset. If I send the application now using much needed £230+ for a postal application in a rush to do this I need both passports for proof of ID to get work ASAP

Has anyone gone through this or is going through it? Did you receive the biometric ID quickly or did it take a very long time? I feel hopeless finding a job as I’m really afraid without the Biometric Residence Permit I won’t be able to get work and that it feels I have no residency

Please any info support and help is appreciate, I’m really worried and feel very alone

In order to be able to start a new role, your application for a BRP will need to be in process but if you have your case reference number handy to provide to your new employer or to your recruitment consultant, they will be able to complete an employer checking service request in order for you to start whilst this is being reviewed at the Home Office.

Hi Zimba/All

So as I've seen the postal application posts on here that looks long and torturous :? , I've got an appointment to do the same day Premium Service Appointment to get my Biometric ID

My appointment is 26th July so fingers crossed I can get on with things and get the BRP card same day

NTL Premium appointment: 26/07/2017
Date booking made: 11/07/17
Payment Debited: 11/07/17
Approval/Refusal Received:
BRP Card Received:

One quick question: can I use the booking case reference number to provide to a new employer or recruitment consultant so they can complete an employer checking?? I’ve been turned away from 4 job offers now

Thank you for any advice

Although exorbitantly expencive it's worth doing premium appointment. No risk of loss of documents and decision is the same day. If you have all passports and valid immigration stamp etc they don't ask for any other documents. Waiting time was 6 hours due to high volume of cases, so book the whole day off

Finally! :)
