Returning to UK after YMS, to connect with flight

Post by JustTryingToGetHome » Sun Jul 09, 2017 11:46 am

Hi guys,

My YMS recently expired. I was planning to leave UK and come back as a visitor and tour the UK a bit before going home to NZ. I found out a couple of days before my departure that there was a strong chance that I would not be let back into the country, so I packed up for good and I'm now hanging about in Europe, trying to figure out how to get home.

I have a flight from Heathrow to New Zealand booked on the 18th of August. What is my best move from here?

What are my chances of getting into the UK, for say 1 day or less to reconnect with this flight and go home? Is there any forms I can fill out or things I can do to ensure my entry back into the country, only for very temporary means? Or am I best to write off that flight and rebook from somewhere else in Europe?

Thanks,
M

As long as you have your onward flight tickets and confirmed boarding pass when arriving in the U.K. A day or so before you depart home is likely to be ok. There is no guarantees but as long as you present yourself as only transiting through and not intending to remain in the U.K. you should be fine.

It is not without its risks but achievable and not too unreasonable for the Border Officer to allow you entry. Do not push your lucky by arriving more than 2 days before your flight home.
