Query regarding Work duration on COS

Hi,

I am an India and have got a job offer from UK company. They are sponsoring my Tier2 general visa.They have issued COS to me but the duration on COS is 1 year only. When i asked about the short duration, they told me that its UK immigration rule that if you are a non EU national, then the first COS is assigned for 1 year only.Can anyone confirm this?

wrong. The first cos can be up to 5 years.

You need to check that the company offering you a job is a genuine company. Or the person handling your COS might just be clueless. You pay the same application fee for 1yr and 3 yrs, the only difference if the IHS fee. So why would they issue COS for just 1 yr.
