Marriage

Post by erdincm » Sun Jul 16, 2017 11:36 pm

Hi
I am British and Turkish citizen, living here in UK. My girlfriend is Turk, living in Turkey. We are planning to get married and I was wondering what is the easiest way to get her coming to UK. Should we marry in Turkey according to Turkish rules, get the marriage certificate from Turkey? Then apply for family visa for her. Will it be any faster if we marry according to British? Not sure whether we can just go to British Consulate in Istanbul/Turkey and get married there.
Regards

The British Consulate doesn't perform marriage ceremonies. See the official link below in marrying abroad.

If you marry in Turkey your wife will only have to apply for one visa (VAF4a) Spouse Settlement visa. The visa fee is currently £1464 + £600 NHS surcharge.

If you apply for a fiance visa to marry in the UK within 6 months, the fees will be:
£1464 fiance visa
£933 FLR(M) spouse visa (applied for in the UK once married)
£500 NHS surcharge

Your fiancee will be unable to work in the UK until her FLR(M) visa is granted. A postal application can take 3 months to process but if you want a decision on the day you will need to pay an additional fee of £590 to apply in person at a PSC.

If you marry in Turkey and your wife enters on a Spouse Settlement visa she will be able to work immediately.
