Category A Returning - Questions about conversion rate

Post by Marshall2016 » Mon Jul 24, 2017 12:06 pm

Hello, my husband is a British citizen and I am a non-EU spouse. We are currently living in Ireland, and while we love it here, we do want to return back to the UK before we start having kids. In Category A of the financial requirement, it states that when a citizen is working for six months abroad earning the required amount, he can apply for a spouse visa if he has an offer for work in the UK also meeting the requirement.

While this is still several months off for us (if we can make it work), I was just wondering how the financial requirement is converted from Euros to GBP? Right before we moved to Ireland, we checked my husband's annual salary of 21000 euros, and it was converting to just under the required amount, at roughly 18500 GBP. However, recently, we've noticed it has spiked in conversion to being around 18700-18800 GBP. Does his annual salary need to consistently be above 18600 GBP, as converted on a daily basis, for us to apply? Or does it only matter what it converts to when we apply? This is very confusing, and we'd like to know in advance if he needs to look for a higher paying job.

Thank you very much for any assistance you can offer.

Hi Marshall,

Under paragraph 1(f) and (g) of Appendix FM-SE, income or cash savings in a foreign currency will be converted to pounds sterling (£) using the closing spot exchange rate which appears on www.oanda.com on the date of application. Where there is income or cash savings in different foreign currencies, each will be converted into pounds sterling (£) before being added together, and then added to any UK income or savings, to give a total amount.

Thank you very much for your reply! So we need only check this site and verify that his salary converts to above 18600 GBP on the date of our application?

yes, thats the current rule. Might be worth checking here on the date you apply just to make sure it has not changed.
