Family Visitor Visa

Hi,

My in-laws had visited us for the 1st time this year. My mother-in-law stayed with us for 3months between March and June. She came on standard visitor visa which is valid for 6months till end of August.

Now my wife is due for delivery in Jan 2018 and therefore would like my mother in law to come back in Dec and stay with us for 6months.

Can she apply for a new visa which would allow her to travel for 6months in Dec 2017. we are concerned about this 6months in 12 months period rule and its unclear whether this would be applicable in her case as her visa was valid only till Aug. Also, its unclear whether they will grant her a new visa for the full 6months as she has already spent 3months in UK in the last 12 months.

Any guidance would be helpful.
