Please explain the PhD 8 years time limit/cap

Post by Samama » Wed Aug 02, 2017 8:54 pm

Hi there, I really hope to get a reply to this comment of mine, so here goes:

My undergrad course is for 4 years (includes a placement year). After that I want to do taught masters which will take another 1 year. After that can I apply for a PhD (could be either a 3-year or 4-year programme)? Will my tier-4 visa application get rejected?

Yes.

Not because of any cap, no. PhD studies are exempt from the cap. The 8-year cap is only for those who have completed a PhD.
I do not give immigration advice. I refer you to Immigration Rules, guidance, other online content and to your sponsor.
