Holding a German and UK residence permit simultaneously

Post by dmath » Sun Aug 06, 2017 12:58 pm

Dear all,

I am a non-EEA national and will be going to the UK this September for my further studies. Before this I completed my post-grad studies in Germany and was on a German student residence permit. While I have deregistered from the German university and have cancelled my city registration as well, after completing my studies in Germany; I am confused about the status of my German student residence permit which is valid till April 2018.

Will getting a UK BRP (residence permit) in September 2017 automatically cancel my German student residence permit?

I will need to go back to Germany once in September 2017 to transfer some of my luggage to the UK. I am confused as to whether I will be able to travel to Germany based on my student residence permit, once I have been given a UK BRP.

- a confused student

Depends, after your de registration if they had notified the immigration authorities. As a TCN when you enter schengen in sep, border guards are allowed to have a standard check on you and if the question of proof of student status comes up you might find yourself in trouble and possibly denied entry. On the other hand you could also be just waved off, now the choice is yours, you know that permit is issued for studies purposes and if you do not fall under those purposes you should not risk your entry and consider applying for a visitor visa.
