How do tier4 visa's work with C&G diplomas?

Hi all.

My friend wants to study auto electric engineering, but the only valid courses in the UK are 2 x 1 year diplomas.

I don't think he can apply for both courses same time, so when he reaches the end of the level 2 diploma and wishes to continue onto level 3 (assuming he passes and gets accepted etc) how would that work with the visa?

He would apply to extend it. See the gov.uk info on Tier 4 visa > Extend your Visa:
