Visa to get married in Gibraltar

Post by WorlTraveler » Sat Aug 12, 2017 4:31 pm

Hi everyone
I have an appointment booked at the registry office of Gibraltar for August 23 rd. As a Colombian citizen I require a visa to enter Gib I applied on July 17 online and went to the appointed time to submit supporting documents on July 21 on August 10 i received an email saying my application could not be processed within 15 working days because it was not straight forward yet they have not requested any additional documentation either. Every document I provided provides clear reference as to what is the purpose of my visa (my wedding day) and supporting evidence that my fiancé is financially responsible for me as he has been for the past months! My wedding is now ruined because of this when I called they can't seem to do anything because their customer service line has been outsourced and to be honest you get nowhere with them. Plus you have to pay by the minute. It was not easy to get the registry office in Gib to give me that appointment and now I have no visa no wedding and paid Gib registry office for a weddi that cannot happen on time thanks to UKVI it's only a 3 day visa we have no intention of even living in UK or any part of Europe. We simply wish to get married ! Please is there someone out there that can relate or that has received a similar email or anyone that has applied for Gibraltar visa before? Can I cross from Spain to Gib without a visa ?

As a Colombian national you require a visa to enter Gibraltar via Spain.

Why have you chosen to marry in Gibraltar?

Gib. is not part of the UK nor are visas issued by the UKVI as far as I know - it has its own consular service.

Do you know the contact information of the consular for Gibraltar? When I called the Gib border office I spoke to an officer who stated the process had to be done via ukvi overseas territory.

I clicked through and you do end up at UK FCO - they must handle visas on Gibraltar's behalf. Also says you should apply from your normal country of residence.

I applied online and presented supporting documents in Madrid Spain on July 21 st the tls visa centre stated that they will contact me within processing times meaning theee weeks. It's been three weeks and this Thursday ukvi sent me an email stating my application would take longer because it did not pass as straight forward not even taking into consideration I'm getting married on aug 21 and the fact that they have my passport which even if I request back it would take 7 working days to obtain and by then this means I would hav overstated in Spain I'm wondering if this would cause them issues with the authorities because of them I can't get married and I'm obligated to overstay in Spain

The Spanish won't see your situation as a reason to be 'obligated' to overstay your visa, especially when Gibraltar is involved in the delay.

The delay is likely to be due to the fact that you are legally 'present' in Spain where the application was submitted, but not resident.
At Wanderer has pointed out, a visitor visa can generally only be applied for in your country of residence, which I assume in your case is Columbia.

I understand but I cannot ask for another passport a a Colombian embassy because is not stolen or lost is simply with Ukvi
If that's the case then the TLS visa centre where ukvi applications on was made should have made it clear that I cannot apply and therefore refuse me in even applying and direct me to my home country instead but that wasn't the case instead they happily took my 227 euros payment and welcomed me to apply to a visa outside my home country which is cynically false information and theft ! At this point I just need my passport back ironically my fiancé is British lol! We love each other and we will marry wherever main concern is PASSPORT

Hey, I know this is a little dated now but my partner and I are in a very similar situation at the moment. Just wondering how it worked out for you both? And whether we should pursue this idea or wait and apply when he returns back to Colombia?

Really hoping you were able to sort your visa out!
