Visa renewal and benefit

Hello,
My son and I are both British citizens and my husband came with a student visa and sent his passport to change his visa from student to family. I am not on any benefit and only receive child benefit. Will it affect his application is I apply for benefits? I just finished university and currently looking for work. He is only allowed to work 20hrs a week and we live in a room.
Please kindly advice me
