Spouse Visa wrong English Test taken

Post by ReturningHome » Fri Aug 18, 2017 12:02 am

Hi,

When applying with the British Council in my wife's home country, the only available options when booking the ielts exam were 'General Training' and 'Academic'.

General training was listed as 'For those wanting to migrate to the Uk or study below degree level'.

To cut a long story short, I mistakenly assumed that was the life skills A1 test.

She is currently taking the test (oral done, written due in a few days) but I don't know where we stand - if she passes the exam will that be acceptable?

If I have to pay for another test, then so be it (though I'd rather not stress my wife out), but I don't want to lose lots of time waiting for results that may be meaningless.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

From which country your wife is applying ??

If it's Ielts for UKVI then General training will be acceptable but if it's normal IELTS then unfortunately she'll have to take A1.

I did the same mistake so had to take A1 but it's a lot easier than General training. Test takes 15 minutes and you get the result in 7 days whilst General training results take 13 days.

Hi Metanoia,

It's from Mexico and its with a British Council approved centre. It is the UKVI version but it looks to me as if the results are in scores. Do you know what score she would have to achieve?

Unfortunately, the results are due 1 day after the next A1 exam so we will have to make a decision before or effectively lose another month.

A1 is the lowest level.

Whichever test you decide to use make sure it's on the list of HO approved test list and centre.

Good luck
