Getting friend into Blighty!

Post by Blu_jz » Fri Jul 28, 2017 10:42 am

Hello everyone!

Long time viewer first time poster. Firstly id like to apologise if my query has been posted into the wrong section. I know how frustrating it can be!

My situation is this;

I have a friend who is a 24 year old girl that is a US citizen. In a few month's time we are planning to have her visit me over here in sunny England.

We would like her stay to be a month long as plane tickets are expensive and we want to make the most of the time spent together.

She is employed at a care facility and will have a letter from her employer stating that she is legitimately employed and has been granted a months leave to travel. It will also state the date she must return to work.

Both me and my mother are in full time employment, i am an engineer and she is a teacher.

I am providing a return plane ticket and me and my mother will be writing letters of invitation and sponsorship. We will both include 6 months pay slips too. She will be staying with me at my mother's house for the month.

Can anyone forsee any issue with entry to the uk under these circumstances.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Any questions llease ask!

Thanks in advance

Alex

The letters of invitation won't add much, but the letter from her employer should. A lot of US citizens get just 2 weeks holiday a year, so a month-long trip may provoke questions. Having a letter from the employer addresses the question in case it's asked. Have a phone number for the employer to hand so the letter's facts can be verified if required (remember the time difference and if the employer will be available).

Although you are buying the return flight, make sure she has details of the booking available.

Is this a boyfriend/girlfriend thing? If so be honest. Visiting one's significant other is a valid reason for travel and plenty of people do it every day without problem. Deception is a good way to end up being refused entry. Subsequent visits may provoke questions over a persons intentions to leave, but if its the first trip and there's no failed visa applications for example then I'm struggling to see a problem.

In the end it will boil down to three things:
- is the Immigration Officer satisfied the traveller will return to their home country when they say they will and before the expiration the leave?
- is the IO satisfied that the traveller isn't going to/doesn't need to work?
- does the traveller have access to enough money to satisfy the IO they can support themselves for the duration of their stay OR will they be supported by someone legally resident here?

Sounds like you've got it all covered.

The first time I went to the US, I knew nothing of the subject and took loads of paperwork to show I had a life in the UK as I was terrified of being refused entry and had read that the IOs decision was final. In the end I needed none of it and it was a painless experience.

Hope that helps.

Good morning all!

Second post here and i guess its best to post it here in general! I hope it's ok!

So a friend of mine who is a US citizen is coming out to visit me in October.

She has been granted a 3 month leave of absence from work and we are intending to take full advantage of this. I am aware that evidence of ties to the US can be an advantage at the border. Her employer will obviously give her the contract of employment to take with her and is also prepared to write a letter to clarify the leave is legit and the date she needs to return to work. She also volunteers at the local high school as an assistant to some of the teachers who are also prepared to write a letter for her.

Could anybody maybe give me an idea as to how best to word these letters. I'm at a loss how to even start them.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

Yours faithfully

Alex
