UK residence card - gov.uk website unclear

Post by yagulnaz » Wed Aug 23, 2017 2:51 pm

Hello all,

apologies if this is a topic that has been discussed recently - I didn't find anything but that doesn't mean I didn't miss it.

So it used to be possible to apply for a residence certificate as an EU person. Currently the gov.uk website says this:

You don’t need to apply for a document to prove you can live in the UK unless you’re both:
  • from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland
an extended family member of someone from the EEA or Switzerland
I.e. you only need to apply as a family member.

What about EU citizens? No registration certificate possible for the time being?

You can still apply for the residence card though under Freedom of Movement it is not strictly necessary - but will be useful to prove your status. I suspect the government is trying to manage the workload for issuing the documents.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

Yes, but where is all the guidance now about how to do it? There are no forms available and no guidance notes.
I'm wondering whether it's best to have a registration certificate before Brexit or whether it is useless?
