Naturalisation - applying as couple ...

Post by Xenjin » Thu Feb 21, 2008 12:51 pm

Hi

I'll be applying for naturalisation this year and just not sure if my wife is eligible ...

Me - came to UK June 2001 as WP holder
Wife - came to UK January 2005 as WP holder dependent

we both got our permament residency (ILR) in 2005, since its cheaper to apply as couple for naturalisation - british citizen I've decided that time to wait for her to be at least 3 yrs in UK which is she is now ... can anyone clarify if she is eligible to apply with me?

Thanks in advance

A detailed requirements in available in BIA website.

http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/britis ... uirements/

Picking a key residential requirement(s)
* have been resident in the United Kingdom for at least five years (this is known as the residential qualifying period);
*have been present in the United Kingdom five years before the date of your application;

So applying the above rule, you qualify to become a citizen and not your wife.

She can apply under: 'spouse or civilpartner of citizen' category, ie after your become a citizen
