Type of visa

Post by hostwiz » Thu Sep 07, 2017 1:51 pm

Hi guys,

my mother in-law wants to visit her (non eu wife) and I am not sure for what kind of visa we need to apply. She is going stay for 10 days and then go back.

Do we apply for eea family permit or regular visitor visa?

Thanks in advance

Hi there,

Can anyone help with this? Do we apply for EEA family permit for my non-eu mother of law?

I know that the eea family permits gives us rights to work and all that, we do not need this. We want only to show her the country for a couple of weeks.

Any help will be appreciated.

Kind Regards

A regular visitor visa would normally be the most appropriate, unless you are intending that she ultimately comes to live with you as a dependant, e.g. in 10 years time. (Brexit will probably prevent that, anyway.) Evidence submitted with the application for a visa as a visitor might be later used against a claim that she was a dependant.

The currently processing time certainly makes a visitor visa preferable, unless she is in one of those privileged territories where family permits are not processed in Sheffield.
