Can someone please HELP me. Has anyone just recently applied for NTL? What was the outcome. In my own case, I've had indefinite leave to remain since 2004. My father is British so why I was given indefinite leave to remain and I've been living in the uk ever since then. I've never been out of uk for more than 6months. The times I went on holiday to Nigeria was for just 2 weeks max. I lost my passport and visa and all documents I've had ever since I arrived in the uk. All these was stolen from me. So I applied for NTL to get my visa back. I used the premium service and paid the amount of £902. I went to submit my application on the 31st of August and a case worker which handled my application told me I would have to send in proof to show that I've been living in the uk since 2004. As the whole file which contained all documents I had since 2004 has been stolen including my passports, has made it difficult for me to send proof however I have sent my bank statements from the year 2011-2017 and a letter from HMRC to proof I've been on some sort of benefit since I had my son in 2010. The case worker told me it would have been easy for them to check from my passport if I've been living in the uk since 2004 but it was a new blank passport I just got I tendered which has no travelling stamps on it just yet. My family is all British, my father, my sister, step mum, step brother etc.. and they've all been living in the uk all their lives. I am really scared and worried I might be refused getting my visa back as I didn't send in much documents to proof I've been living in uk since 2004. Ever since the 31st of Aug 2017 that the case worker asked me to send these proof in, my life has been the worst ever, I've been the saddest I've ever been, depressed and even thinking suicide. Because we all know that without having a visa in uk, one is basically useless and cannot live a normal life. Am scared I might be refused. I am also meant to be getting married i December in Nigeria and if the immigration refuses me getting back my visa, I could commit suicide. Please does anyone has any information that can help me think positive?

You need to calm yourself down please, thinking like that will not do anything for you or your families situation by thinking like that.

If you could maybe answer some things I'll highlight them and ask the question in that colour.

Do you mean the total time outside the UK from when you arrived till date? Or do you mean you have spent 6 months outside the UK in a single trip in a single year?

When you say you have lost them,
Did you go to the police and get a report reference number?
Did you inform the Home Office at the time that the documents were lost?
May I ask why did you not try to get replacement documents if you had ILR since 2004? Or 2as this recently lost or stolen?
May I also ask if you had lost them, where you still present in the UK during that time you lost them?

If they were stolen, Why wasn't it reported to the police?
if so, you should have been given a crime report number. This alone could have helped you to provide some form of proof to the HO that you have been here for the claimed date.


I understand you have made an application for the no time limit based on your ILR, but again how long has it been since you had you documents and passport stolen or lost?

I'm not trying to get at you but I see where the HO immigration officer is trying to get these details as from the Info you have given its all very confusing.

Do you not have a immigration solicitor to help you as I'll advise you to seek professional help.

If you have been here since 2004, don't you have any utility bills, any benefits in your name since then or any other letters addressed to you that the HO could maybe identify you.

Also on what basis did you come to the UK? as you say your father was a UK citizen? And you have had ILR since 2004, meaning you came before attaining you ILR?

Hello, thanks for your reply. I came in to the uk in 2004 with ILR visa. My father had already been living in the uk. I came to join my father in 2004. Yes I immediately reported to the police that my documents, passports and visa was stolen and I got a crime reference number and I did give the crime reference number to the HO. I had 3 different files which contained all my letters, bills, bank statements, birth certificate, etc. These files were stolen from me along with my 3 passports including the one which contained my ILR visa. Each time I received a new passport after expiring, I still keep the old ones. I also reported my visa stolen by filling the form online on HO website and I got a email confirmation that my visa had been terminated. I immediately applied for a new passport and began the NTL application after i received my new passport.

I meant Since I arrived in the U.K since 2004, I had not left the uk ever since for more than two weeks each time I went on holiday. My ILR was just recently stolen in July 2017. I was present in the U.K at the time my ILR was stolen along with all the letters addressed to me, statements, bills, tenancy agreements etc.

I came to the uk when I was 18yrs old, my ILR was issued to me in Nigeria and I came with my ILR from Nigeria to live with my family in London. My dad was my sponsor when I arrived in 2004. My dad is British and this is why I qualified for ILR at that time to come and live my life with my family here in the U.K. I grew up with my nan in Nigeria.

Gather as much evidence as you can concerning your residence in the UK. If you can show that you were granted ILR, then the caseworker may have the burden of proof to show that it had lapsed.

It may be better to forget about ILR/NTL.

You may register as a British citizen instead.

Thank you so much ma'am, my dad told me exactly the same thing you just said. He said I should apply for a British citizen instead of trying to get my ILR back. But I know British citizen cost about £1200 plus and I don't have that amount of money right now. The reason why I want my ILR back is because am getting married in December and I have to be in Nigeria by November for the wedding preparations. Thanks a lot, you've been very helpful to me.

Under 4G (ref 2(1)), I think you only have to pay the ceremony fee £80. Less than NTL fee?

Wow. That's affordable. I thought it was about £1200 to naturalise and then after naturalising comes the British passport application. I will follow the links you added and definitely take it from there. Thank you so much. If I knew I should be applying for British citizen instead, I wouldn't have paid £902 for NTL. I would have just used that money for the whole British citizenship application.
